Following a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held today, the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has appointed a disciplinary committee with immediate effect.
A communication seen by this publication and signed by Secretary General Hon. Richard Chimwendo Banda names Hon. Jimion Nyanda, MP, as chairperson of the committee.
The members are Hon. Chang’anamuno, MP; Hon. Mwanyongo Chitonya, MP; Hon. Henry Mumba; Hon. Chanthunya; Dr. Gerald Chigona; Hon. Mrs. Lombola; Hon. Joe Ching’ani; and Mr. Poko.
The ex-officio members are the Director of Legal Affairs, the Director of Youth, the Director of Women Affairs, and the Administrative Secretary.
“These appointments are with immediate effect,” reads the communication.
The committee is expected to handle disciplinary matters within the party. However, the communication did not outline specific cases or a timeline for its work.
The appointments bring together nine party members and four ex-officio officials. No further details were immediately available.
