Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (CDEDI) Executive Director Sylvester Namiwa has denied allegations of treason and publication of false information as his case returned before the High Court in Lilongwe.
Namiwa appeared before High Court Judge Mzonde Mvula, where he pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.
The State, however, told the court that it intends to apply for the revocation of Namiwa’s bail, although it did not disclose the grounds for the intended application.
Judge Mvula has directed the State to file its application by September 16, 2026.
Defence lawyer Gladwell Majekete has been given until September 22 to respond to the State’s application, with the matter scheduled to be heard on September 23.
State Director of Litigation Dzikondianthu Malunda told the court that the prosecution plans to call at least five witnesses during the trial.
Malunda further indicated that the State will rely on digital evidence in presenting its case.
He estimated that the prosecution will require between three and five days to present its evidence once the trial commences.
The case now shifts attention to the State’s pending application, which could determine whether Namiwa continues enjoying his current bail conditions.
