Minister Chimwemwe Chipungu to launch 5-year lands ministry masterplan at BICC

By Jones Gadama

Good news for Malawians as the DPP government continues to walk the talk on its campaign promises.

The Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development has announced the official launch of its Strategic Plan 2026-2031, a clear sign that President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika’s government is serious about fixing land issues in this country once and for all.

The historic launch will be presided over by the hardworking Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Honourable Chimwemwe Chipungu, MP. According to the official communication, the event will take place on Tuesday 13th October 2026 at 9AM at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe.

The event is sponsored by reputable institutions including ERIS Properties MW, Habitat for Humanity Malawi and NBS Bank.

This Strategic Plan is direct fulfillment of what DPP promised Malawians during the campaign.

The party promised to bring sanity in the lands sector, to end the painful land grabbing and double allocation of plots, to give Malawians secure title deeds and to provide affordable housing.

For years Malawians have suffered with land wrangles and no proper urban planning. This 5-year masterplan will provide the roadmap to end all that and bring order and development.

Minister Chimwemwe Chipungu has proven to be one of the most hardworking and focused ministers in President Mutharika’s cabinet. Since taking over the ministry, he has been pushing reforms to make land services transparent, digital and pro-poor for every Malawian.

When big private sector players like ERIS Properties, Habitat for Humanity and NBS Bank come to sponsor a government plan, it means they have full confidence in the plan and in the leadership of Minister Chipungu and President Mutharika.

This is what real leadership looks like, not propaganda but action on the ground. DPP promised and DPP is delivering for Malawians.
