Muluzi defends criticism of Govt performance

By Rahim Abdul

United Democratic Front (UDF) President Atupele Muluzi says raising concerns about government performance should be a call to action, rather than be viewed as political hostility.

In a Facebook post, Muluzi says his criticism is focused on challenges affecting ordinary Malawians.

Muluzi: I am not critizing the government

He cites shortages of clean water, fuel, foreign currency and medicines in health facilities as some of the issues requiring urgent attention.

Muluzi says speaking out is intended to keep the concerns of citizens at the centre of the national conversation.

He also points out that he criticised the Tonse Alliance administration when he believed certain areas of its performance needed improvement, adding that his Facebook page contains previous posts raising such concerns.

According to Muluzi, his position is based on his assessment of issues affecting the country at a particular time, rather than opposition to government.

He says he will commend the government when it makes progress but will continue raising concerns where improvements are needed, arguing that Malawians deserve to see positive changes in their daily lives.
