Malawian boxing fans are set for a thrilling super-middleweight showdown as Snoden Munyanje and Mayamiko Mozland prepare to battle for national honours this Sunday, August 30, 2026, at Kumbali Castle and Lodge in Lilongwe.
The 12-round bout, organised by New Dawn Boxing Promotions, is expected to provide a stern test for both fighters, with Munyanje putting his title on the line against a determined Mozland.
The contest has already generated excitement following a tense face-off ceremony held in Lilongwe on Friday, where the two boxers exchanged confident words ahead of their highly anticipated meeting.
Munyanje, who is based in Blantyre, enters the fight as the reigning champion and believes he has what it takes to retain his belt against his South Africa-based challenger.
The champion said he deliberately brought his belt to Lilongwe to give fans an opportunity to see it before the fight, insisting that he intends to return with it to Blantyre after Sunday’s contest.
Munyanje also dismissed concerns about Mozland’s boxing ability, saying he is not intimidated by his opponent’s clever punches and remains confident of securing victory.
Mozland, however, has travelled from South Africa with a different mission, declaring that he wants to make history by dethroning Munyanje and claiming the national title.
The challenger said winning the belt would be an important milestone in his career as he seeks to establish himself as a national champion before turning his attention to opportunities on the international stage.
With both fighters refusing to back down, the verbal exchanges at the face-off have added further intrigue to a bout that promises to attract considerable attention from boxing enthusiasts.
Premier Bet Assistant Community Manager Edson Kumkeyani said the company was impressed by the excitement generated by the fighters ahead of the contest.
Kumkeyani said Premier Bet would continue supporting boxing because the sport has the potential to help local fighters build sustainable careers and become self-reliant.
New Dawn Boxing Promotions owner Michael Chimaliza confirmed that all boxers scheduled to compete on the card had arrived in Lilongwe, saying preparations for the event were on course and the stage was set for Sunday’s action.
