The Democratic Progressive Party celebrated a strong showing at the National Product Magazine Mid-Year Awards held at the Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe, with several senior leaders receiving national recognition for service, advocacy, and leadership.
The awards, which honor outstanding performance by public office holders between January and June, saw DPP figures dominate key categories and draw praise from across the political spectrum.
Minister of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare, Honourable Mary Navicha, was named “Voice of the People” for her consistent championing of issues affecting Malawians at grassroots level.
National Product Magazine said Navicha has built a national reputation as a leader who speaks plainly, listens deeply, and pushes policies that translate into real benefits for women, children, and vulnerable groups. The award is only the latest in a long line of recognitions she has received throughout her career.
While in opposition, Navicha was also accorded the Women’s Champion Award by the Malawi Women in Politics Association for her fearless representation of women’s interests in Parliament and her role in mentoring female leaders across the country.
That honour came at a time when she had no ministerial platform, which made it even more meaningful because it was based purely on her commitment, consistency, and voice in the chamber. Her track record shows she does not wait for office to serve; she leads from wherever she is placed.
Constituents and colleagues often describe her as compassionate and accessible, qualities that make her fit to be called the angel of the people. For many Malawians, the “Voice of the People” award simply confirms what they have been saying for years about a leader who carries their concerns to the highest tables.
Deputy Minister of National Defence, Norman Chisale, was recognized as Member of Parliament who has served the people best.
The award cited his hands-on approach to security and community issues, his accessibility to ordinary citizens, and his ability to work across party lines. Organizers noted that Chisale’s reputation for responding quickly to constituent concerns has earned him respect beyond DPP circles.
Minister of Natural Resources, Honourable Patricia Wisikesi, was also honoured as the Best Performing Female Member of Parliament.
The award highlighted her work in environmental conservation, sustainable resource management, and linking policy to community livelihoods.
Wisikesi’s recognition reinforces the DPP’s emphasis on placing capable women in critical sectors and ensuring that environmental issues are treated as matters of national development, not side concerns.
Party officials who attended the ceremony said the awards reflect DPP’s focus on delivery and accountability.
They noted that trophies mean little without impact, but in these cases the impact is visible in communities where social protection programs have expanded, markets have been upgraded, and local concerns have received direct attention. Supporters who gathered outside BICC after the event praised their leaders and said the awards validate what they experience on the ground.
The National Product Magazine Mid-Year Awards are designed to celebrate measurable results and leadership that puts citizens first.
This year’s event brought together ministers, MPs, captains of industry, and civil society leaders, creating a platform to recognize service that often goes unnoticed. For DPP, the multiple wins are being taken as motivation to keep up the pace ahead of upcoming political activities.
Party leaders said the recognitions will encourage office holders to remain close to the people and to continue prioritizing policies that improve daily life.
With Navicha, Chisale, and Wisikesi leading the way, the message from Lilongwe was clear: consistent service gets noticed, and leadership rooted in the people earns national respect.
