New Chinsapo Health Centre opens in Lilongwe to ease healthcare access for residents

By Burnett Munthali

Minister of Local Government, Unity and Culture, Ben Phiri has called on residents of Chinsapo in Lilongwe to take good care of the newly constructed Chinsapo Health Centre.

He described the facility as a major step towards improving access to healthcare services in the area.

Phiri made the remarks on Tuesday during the official commissioning of the Chinsapo Health Centre.

The health centre has been constructed with financial support from the AIDS Healthcare Foundation.

Phiri said the health centre will significantly reduce the burden on residents who have for years been forced to travel long distances to access medical services.

He noted that patients have relied on facilities such as Bwaila Hospital and other surrounding health institutions for treatment.

Meanwhile, AHF Africa Bureau Chief Martin Matabishi said their organization provides care to more than three million people living with HIV/AIDS across Africa.

Matabishi stated that out of that number, 54,000 people are from Malawi.

He expressed hope that the establishment of the facility will make it easier to assist them.

Chinsapo Health Centre is expected to serve residents in Chinsapo and surrounding areas.

The facility will bring healthcare services closer to communities with services including HIV/AIDS care, non-communicable diseases management, and counselling services.
