Canadian envoy hails Chakwera vibrant economic policies

While some Malawians are busy castigating the President here at home on economic challenges, Canadian High Commissioner to Malawi Mr. Adler Aristilde has praised Malawi President Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera for prudent economic policies saying they stand to achieve long term economic benefits.

Speaking soon after delivering letters of credence, the High Commissioner hailed the recent 44% currency devaluation saying it will help the country’s macroeconomic stability.

“The decisions that the President made recently- very courageous decisions in-terms of fiscal and monetary policy; hopefully this will help with the microeconomic environment, capital inflows can come in and the Malawian economy can flourish and growth can come back and people of this country deserve an economy that works for them and that leads to prosperity,” said the new envoy.

The High Commissioner said the diplomatic gesture which the president is showing is a testament to Malawi’s commitment to strengthening its diplomatic ties with various countries, including Canada.

Chakwera earlier today received letters of credence from ten non-residential diplomatic envoys at Kamuzu Palace, affirming a strengthened international engagement for the nation.

Representing nations such as the Republic of Angola, Canada, the Republic of Cuba, the Republic of Cyprus, France, Hungary, the Republic of Korea, the Republic of Serbia, the Republic of Sierra Leone, and the Republic of Uganda, the envoys emphasized their commitment to fostering stronger ties with Malawi.

Fans react to Queen Sheba’s new song ‘Show me love’

United Kingdom (UK)-based Malawian musician Queen Sheba on Monday released her long-awaited single titled ‘Show me Love’ and Malawians have been reacting to the brand new song.

The song has been produced by Pon G and the video has been directed by Focused Pixel Multimedia.

Commenting on the new song, one music fanatic Bright Dzinthenga described the song as ‘a true Africa tune’.

“Honestly this song is blazing. The chorus itself is so nice with an African feel . Even someone who doesn’t understand Chichewa language can still love this song.”

Another person on Twitter using Twitter handle @emframpo said he was now convinced that Queen Sheba is a good musician.

“Let me tell you the truth..I thought you couldn’t prepare something good. Now I am convinced that you’re a good musician. Receive your flowers Queen Sheba.”

“Beautiful video, the song is too good” wrote Yolanda Mwimba and these views were also share by Pemphero Khuvulo and Cynthia Isaac also shared on Facebook

The song comes six months after the outspoken musician underwent a vocal surgery in UK.

Earlier this month, Queen Sheba, real name Rachael Muyeba, through her ‘Queen Sheba Entertainment’ had a successful show at Classic Lounge in Ntcheu.

Chakwera receives letters of credence from 10 diplomatic envoys

Tuesday 21st November 2023 was a busy day in office for President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera as he received letters of credence from ten non – residential diplomatic envoys at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe.

The envoys are from the Republic of Angola, Canada, the Republic of Cuba, the Republic of Cyprus, France, Hungary, the Republic of Korea, the Republic of Serbia, the Republic of Sierra Leone, and the Republic of Uganda.

They have all emphasized their commitment to fostering stronger ties between their countries and Malawi.



Speaking in an interview after presenting his letters, Canadian High Commissioner, Marileydis Duenas said he is looking forward to building on the wonderful partnership that exists between Malawi and Canada and continue strengthening the cooperation in areas of agriculture, trade, gender equality and health.

Duenas disclosed the interest from several Canadian companies to invest in Malawi to help boost and rebuild Malawi’s economy.

Radio Maria journalist Luka Chimwaza now Blantyre Press Club President

Radio Maria journalist Luka Chimwaza is now the new President of the Blantyre Press Club(BPC) following his election on Saturday November 18,2023.

Chimwaza was elected unopposed at the press club’s Elective General Meeting held at Hapuwani Lodge in Mulanje District.

He takes over from Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) journalist Blessings Kanache, who served in the position for two terms.

On other hand, George Banda defeated Salim Martin to reclaim the Vice Presidency position.

Sellina Siphat was elected General Secretary(GS) and Ellen Kabisa elected as Vice.

Christopher Sande of Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS) was elected the Treasurer while Hastings Jimani, Martin Gela, Yusus Daisa and Comfort Bulangete were elected Executive Members.

In his acceptance speech, Chimwaza said he will try to be as more innovative as possible to make the organization more exciting and successful.

“I will sustain and continue with works that my predecessor started,” said Chimwaza.

On his part, outgoing president Blessings Kanache who served the position since 2016 cited media trainings and professionalism growth as some successes he initiated during his reign.

“I want to urge you the incoming leaders that you will face a lot of challenges on your way but endure. Things will work out”, said Kanache.

In his remarks, Information Minister, Moses Kunkuyu, who was guest of honour, commended the country’s media for promoting good governce and rule of law as well as shaping leaders.

The elections were overseen by Phillip Banda and Steven Golden from the Malawi Electoral Commission and the district council registry, respectively.

Established in 2014, Blantyre Press Club serves as a crucial platform for journalistic endeavors.

Monica Chakwera hails Muslim World League for K8.5 bn support towards orphans’ education

First Lady Madam Monica Chakwera has commended the Saudi Arabia-based- Muslim World League(MWL) for its continued support to Malawi particularly in the area of orphan care and education.

Madam Chakwera made the remarks on Saturday November 18,2023 in Lilongwe during the launch of the 2023 Orphans Allowances Programme worth K8.5 billion by the Muslim World League.



The amount will serve 6000 orphans and needy students.

Said Madam Chakwera:“Our gathering today to witness this launch of education support for orphans is a testament to the power of compassion, collaboration and a spirit of humanity.

“We appreciate because the Muslim World League’s commitment transcends beyond care for orphans but a partner in the provision of diverse needs of our communities.”

She went on to call upon Malawians to emulate the commitment which the Muslim World League has demonstrated in the past 20 years.

“Your support in the past twenty years has not only been limited to orphans and their welfare but relief and aid such as the support you rendered during the Covid 19 and interventions such as the eye operations,” said Madam Chakwera.

On his part, the Executive Director(ED) for the Muslim World League, Sheikh Walid El Saadi emphasized that the Muslim World League’s core objective is to help inspire hope and help shape the future of orphans and the vulnerable to enable them to become reliable citizens.

“ These children are our children, whether they are in Africa, Saudi Arabia or anywhere, so it is our duty to provide them with food, clothing, and education needs to shape their future so that they become reliable citizens,” said Sheikh Saadi.

In her remarks, Minister of Gender and Children Welfare, Jean Sendeza, said currently, Malawi has 1.2 million orphans and concerted efforts are crucial in meeting their needs such as shelter, food, clothes, education and medical care.

The organisation
also donated K15 million to Chakwera ‘s Shaping our Future Foundation.
