By Rahim Abdul

Malawian volleyball coach Peter Pemba has reached a historic milestone after becoming the first Malawian to obtain the FIVB Level III Coaching Certificate.

Pemba achieved the feat after successfully completing the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) Level III Coaching Course held in Harare, Zimbabwe, from 8 to 15 August 2026.

The qualification is the highest coaching certification offered by the international volleyball governing body, placing Pemba among coaches who have attained the sport’s top coaching standard.

The Harare course attracted 32 coaches from across the region, but only 18 participants successfully met the requirements to graduate.

Malawi was represented by three coaches at the training, with Pemba emerging as the only Malawian to successfully pass the course.

His achievement marks a significant step for volleyball coaching in Malawi, where the development of highly qualified coaches remains important for improving the standard of the sport.

Pemba currently serves as Head Coach of Blue Eagles Volleyball Club, one of Malawi’s established volleyball sides.

He also works as Assistant Coach of the Region 5 Women’s National Volleyball Team, giving him experience at both club and regional level.

The new qualification is expected to further strengthen his contribution to the development of volleyball players and coaches in Malawi and the wider Region 5 area.

The Volleyball Association of Malawi (VAM) has congratulated Pemba, describing the achievement as a milestone that demonstrates his dedication, professionalism and commitment to raising coaching standards.

VAM said Pemba’s success should inspire other Malawian coaches to pursue advanced qualifications and contribute to the continued growth of volleyball in the country.
