UTM Member of Parliament for Soche Zingwangwa, Fred Penjani Kamlepo Kalua, says he is set to meet the Minister of Education over the recent increase in university tuition fees.
Kalua, who is also a musician popularly known as Tchana Fredokiss , announced the planned meeting in a post on his official Facebook page, saying the discussions will focus on understanding the reasons behind the fee adjustment and seeking clarification from the ministry.
He said the meeting will also provide an opportunity to highlight the concerns raised by students, parents and other stakeholders over the rising cost of higher education.
Kalua noted that many families are struggling to afford the increased tuition fees, making it difficult for deserving students to continue with their studies.
He said there is a need for the government to explore alternative solutions that will ease the financial burden on students while ensuring universities remain operational.
According to Kalua, constructive dialogue with the Ministry of Education is essential in finding a balanced and sustainable solution to the issue.
He expressed hope that the planned engagement with the minister will produce positive outcomes that will benefit students and their families across the country.
The tuition fee increase has sparked widespread public debate, with students, parents and civil society organisations calling for measures to make higher education more affordable.
