Wanderers End Bullets’ Charity Shield Dominance with Historic Victory

By Rahim Abdul

For the first time since 2016, Mighty Wanderers have reclaimed the Charity Shield title after edging FCB Nyasa Big Bullets 1-0 in a tightly contested encounter played at Bingu National Stadium on Saturday afternoon, April 18, 2026.

The decisive moment came just after the break when Cameroonian forward Sama Tanjong calmly slotted home from close range, finishing off a well delivered ball from Gaddie Chirwa that caught Bullets’ defence off guard and left goalkeeper Innocent Nyasulu with no chance.

The first half had ended goalless, though Wanderers had a golden opportunity to take the lead but failed to convert from the penalty spot through Isaac Kaliati.

Coming into the match, Wanderers carried the burden of history, having lost their previous four appearances in the Charity Shield  three of those defeats at the hands of Bullets and one against Silver Strikers. However, recent form suggested a shift in momentum.

The Nomads drew confidence from their impressive 2025 campaign, where they defeated Bullets three times twice in the Super League and once in the FDH Bank Cup a record that clearly tilted belief in their favour heading into this clash.

For Bullets, the defeat marks a rare stumble in a competition they had dominated. Prior to this match, they had won all seven of their previous Charity Shield appearances, making this loss their first ever in the tournament’s history.

Wanderers’ triumph not only ends a decade-long wait for the shield but also signals a changing of the guard in Malawian football, with the Nomads proving they now have both the quality and mentality to challenge Bullets’ long standing supremacy.
