Poet Abram, popularly known as Yusuf Ibrahim, has released a new inspirational poem titled “Chidebe”, which seeks to encourage Malawians to embrace positive thinking, good morals and contentment in their daily lives.
Ibrahim said the poem was written to challenge people to avoid jealousy and bitterness whenever others succeed, stressing that every individual should celebrate the achievements of fellow citizens instead of envying them.
According to the poet, “Chidebe” promotes a mindset of gratitude, encouraging people to appreciate what they have while working hard to improve their own lives through honesty and perseverance.
He explained that the poem also highlights the importance of good character, saying society can only develop when people uphold values such as respect, kindness, humility and integrity.
Ibrahim uses the image of a bucket as a powerful metaphor throughout the poem, describing an empty or leaking bucket as something that cannot effectively carry water or fulfil its intended purpose.
He said the same comparison applies to individuals who are driven by hatred, jealousy and poor morals, arguing that such people struggle to make meaningful contributions to their families and communities.
The poet believes literature remains an important tool for educating society and inspiring positive behavioural change, especially among young people who face various social challenges.
He added that through poetry, people can reflect on their actions and attitudes while finding inspiration to become responsible citizens who promote peace and unity.
Ibrahim has urged poetry lovers and members of the public to listen to “Chidebe” and reflect on its message, saying the work was created to inspire personal growth rather than merely entertain audiences.
