Former Vice President and the leader of Odya Zake Alibe Mlandu party,Michael Usi, has called for equal application of the law, saying Malawi cannot achieve meaningful development if individuals accused of corruption and abuse of public resources are not held accountable.
Speaking during Times Exclusive aired on Times Television on Saturday evening, Usi said the country’s justice system should treat everyone equally regardless of their political affiliation or position.
He said he is concerned that some politicians and public officials who are widely alleged to have been involved in corruption and the abuse of public resources continue to walk free without facing legal action.
Usi stressed that anyone found to have broken the law should be arrested and prosecuted, arguing that accountability is essential for national development and public trust in state institutions.
On the mining sector, he suggested that the government should consider involving the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) in protecting mining activities to safeguard the country’s mineral resources and ensure Malawians benefit from them.
The ex-VP also urged the current administration to respect the constitutional Office of the Vice President(OVP), saying mutual respect among holders of high public office is important for the smooth and effective functioning of government.
