Malawi Sun Hotel has unveiled a 12-months ambassadorship programme called ‘Face of Malawi Sun Hotel’ aimed at nurturing young women into leaders and advocates for Malawi’s tourism and hospitality industry.
Speaking during the launch in Blantyre on Friday, the hotel’s Front Office Manager, Venia Awali-Balakali, said the programme was introduced to address the limited representation of women in leadership positions within the sector by equipping them with the confidence and skills needed to excel.
Awali-Balakali emphasised that the initiative is a mentorship and leadership development programme rather than a beauty pageant.

She said participants will undergo intensive training in leadership, communication and hospitality before one outstanding candidate is selected to serve as the hotel’s ambassador for 12 months.
She said applications are open to women aged between 18 and 35 through the hotel’s website and social media platforms and that the programme is open to all eligible women within the age bracket, including single mothers, provided they meet the set requirements.
According to Awali-Balakali, 20 contestants will be shortlisted in the initial stage before the competition is narrowed down to 10 finalists.
“We are not looking for someone because of their beauty. We are looking for someone who is passionate about tourism and hospitality and can proudly represent our brand,” she said.
Malawi Sun Hotel is one of Malawi’s hospitality establishments located in Blantyre.
The hotel offers accommodation, conference facilities, dining and event services, and has hosted a wide range of corporate, government and social functions over the years.
