Liverpool have secured their first Premier League victory under new head coach Andoni Iraola after beating Ipswich Town 2-0 at Portman Road on Friday night.
Alexander Isak was the match-winner for the Reds, scoring twice inside the opening nine minutes to put Liverpool firmly in control. Both goals were created by Cody Gakpo, who produced an influential performance as Liverpool punished Ipswich’s early defensive mistakes.
Ipswich attempted to respond after the early setback, but Liverpool’s defence held firm to register their first clean sheet of the season. New signing Bradley Barcola also made his Liverpool debut from the bench, while Ronald Araújo made his first start for the club.
The victory gives Iraola his first win in charge after Liverpool opened the campaign with consecutive 2-2 draws against Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest. The three points move Liverpool up to fifth place with five points from three matches.
Isak’s brace also takes his tally to three Premier League goals this season, offering an early indication that the Swedish striker is finding his best form again.
Liverpool’s next challenge will be to build on this result and maintain the momentum as Iraola continues to shape his new-look side.
