Chakwera appoints Justice Lovemore Chikopa as Malawi’s Deputy Chief Justice

President Dr.Lazarus Chakwera has appointed Justice Lovemore Chikopa as the Deputy Chief Justice of Malawi.

In a statement, the Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Colleen Zamba says Chikopa’s appointment is in accordance with Section 111 (2) of the Constitution of Republic of Malawi.

Lovemore Chikopa, SC was born on  August 9,1965.

He holds a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) degree from the University of Malawi (1987) and has a Master of Business Administration degree with the University of Zambia (2021).

He started his career in the Judiciary in 1998 as Principal Resident Magistrate having previously served as State Advocate in the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs.

He also worked in private sector with SEDOM and in private legal practice before joining the Office of the Ombudsman as Principal Investigations Officer/Acting Chief Legal Officer.

He was appointed Judge of the High Court in 2000 and Justice of Appeal in 2012.

In 2012, he was appointed by the Government of Zambia to lead a Tribunal which investigated the alleged misconduct of three High Court Judges in Zambia where he served until August,2017.
