President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has urged citizens of this country to be too vigilant against the new strains of the Covid-19 pandemic, saying the current outbreak is spreading so fast and claiming many lives.

President Chakwera was speaking from Kamuzu Palace in a special radio address in the morning of Sunday January 10, 2021 in which he said the current situation is coming because many Malawians relaxed vigilance in the just gone Christmas and New year festive seasons on precautions against Corona Virus.

In his 5 minutes message, president Chakwera urged the nation to hold hands and fight from the front against the virus so that it doesn’t advance its spread any further. Chakwera in his address expressed shock over the speed Corona Virus has-been spreading since Christmas saying it is very disturbing as it has been rising from 66 new cases between the Christmas and boxing day to about over 120 new infections on average, daily. He said this is giving pressure on health workers and the entire system, hence a strong need to strictly follow the precautions against the Virus if the country is to win the battle.

President Chakwera also reminded Malawians the need to intensify prayers to God for his mercy, adding he will personally join his church in 21 day fast and prayer for God to do more over the pandemic.
