Collins Magalasi in handcuffs proves Mutharika is not Chakwera who shielded thieves – Namalomba

By Staff Reporter

Government Spokesperson Shadric Namalomba has silenced enemies who have been circulating videos of Dr Collins Magalasi pulling and shovelling bags purported to be the K5 billion from the Amaryllis Hotel scandal, saying the videos actually prove that the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) government does not shield suspects even if they belong to the ruling party.

Namalomba said the fact that Magalasi, a former Chief Executive Officer of Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) and former economic advisor to President Peter Mutharika, is today answering criminal charges and  appearing before the  Court is proof of leadership.

He faulted Nyasa Times, PIJ Malawi and other online publications that have been pushing the CCTV footage narrative without acknowledging that it is this same DPP government that ordered the arrest and prosecution.

“These same media houses that are now making noise were quiet when MCP was stealing and former President Dr Lazarus Chakwera was shielding his people. MCP punished Malawians through corruption and theft and Chakwera shielded them. As for President Mutharika, he has repeatedly said he won’t shield anyone because they belong to DPP,” said Namalomba.

“Mkulukuta Moyo  won’t shield anyone involved in malpractice because he came to save and liberate Malawians and not to feast,” Namalomba added.

Namalomba explained that unlike MCP which protected its corrupt officials, the DPP has allowed the Financial Intelligence Authority, National Bank of Malawi, and the courts to do their job.

The K128 billion Amaryllis Hotel deal where K90 billion was paid through Reserve Bank of Malawi and where proxies allegedly withdrew over K5 billion in cash at Capital City Service Centre, is now under full investigation because President Mutharika ordered it.

He shamed media houses that failed to gather enough evidence and are using the videos to suggest government is involved, when in fact government is the one prosecuting.

Malawians should therefore applaud DPP for arresting its own, Namalomba concluded.
