Creck Sporting has made a bold move in its fight to revive its struggling FDH Bank Premiership campaign by appointing former Flames coach Ernest Mtawali as the club’s new head coach.
The club announced on Thursday that Mtawali has signed a two-year contract and will immediately take charge of the team’s technical affairs as it seeks to turn around its fortunes.
Mtawali replaces Elia Kananji, who was relieved of his duties following a disappointing start to the 2026 season that has left the club rooted at the bottom of the league standings.
Creck Sporting has managed just two points from six league matches, a run of results that has raised concerns among supporters and club officials about the team’s survival prospects.
The appointment is being viewed as a major statement of intent from the club, with management banking on Mtawali’s vast coaching experience and football knowledge to steer the side away from danger.
Having previously handled top teams and served as coach of the Malawi national team, Mtawali arrives with a reputation for discipline and tactical awareness, qualities Creck will hope can inspire a quick turnaround.
