Revolutionary leader of Muvi wa Chilungamo Revolutionary Party (MRP) Bantu Saunders Jumah, said the late Ngwazi Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda taught his people to be hard working in the fields, discipline, self -reliance and national building saying today, all these went with Kamuzu Banda to the grave.
Jumah said the country lost direction from 1993 saying at that time, almost 90 percent of Malawians were living in the typical rural areas producing for national development but after 1993, 65 percent left the rural areas to live in town doing nothing.
He said for many many years, Malawian workers were trusted to be hard workers but from 1993 they lost the hard working spirit to a new political era, many educated people in town joined politics not for servant leadership but self – enrichment.
Speaking through the Revolutionary voice, Jumah said for 62 years of independence and 32 years of democracy, Malawi has become a mining garden where politics has become an enrichment project that many of these people are billionaires while preaching that their country is poor.
Jumah said the biggest mistake made by Malawians was that they left the word “democracy” to be defined and controlled by politicians and it is not a surprise that state enterprises were sold to the highest bidders – the Indians, others dismantled and abandoned.
He said after politicians misused the meaning of democracy to favour their own needs, the country’s economy begun to decline, people were no longer hard working but lazy believing that government will be providing to them for free including food.
The Revolutionary leader said for more than three decades of multiparty democracy and politics, Malawians have repeatedly been changing governments but faces and the system in government are the same.
He said people take political offices for personal enrichment and not national responsibility saying this is what is being evidenced between the State and Parliament fighting with some concerned citizens demanding Speaker of Parliament to apologize to President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika for no offence at all.
Jumah said Suleman has done nothing wrong to apologize to the State President Professor Mutharika saying Suleman himself made it clear that he consult Professor Mutharika for decisions saying this is speaking for itself that if it is to apologize, the state has to do so for interfering with the office of the Speaker of Parliament.
He said as of this date, Sameer Suleman and 11 Members of Parliament heading the parliamentary committees have been turned into political enemies of the current DPP government observing that a strong democracy does not fear scrutiny or investigations.
“When political leaders enrich themselves, citizens suffer and the nation is paying them handsomely, a good government should welcome investigations,” said Jumah.
He said for 62 years of independence and 32 years of democracy, many houses in Malawi are in blackout, the country has arable land yet people are struggling to find food observing that the country has been taken over by political loyalties who are fighting for personal interests.
Jumah said Malawi needs political reset, government structures need to move away from being controlled by politicians who have politics of personalities to deliver good results, reminding those in authorities that power is a trust not a property, Malawians deserve a government that explains how public resources are being used in the country.
