Kamuzu Barracks Football Club has moved swiftly to discipline members of the military linked to violent scenes at Dedza Stadium, placing accountability at the centre of the aftermath.
In a statement signed by the club’s General Secretary, Lieutenant B. Sibanda, the team confirmed that those involved in assaulting a stadium steward have been handed a one-year suspension from all Kamuzu Barracks football-related activities.
The club, however, did not disclose the names of the individuals, despite confirming the sanctions. In addition, the offenders will face further disciplinary action in line with military regulations.
The action reflects the club’s firm stance on discipline, stressing that emotional reactions, even in heated matches, cannot justify violence.
Sibanda emphasized that Kamuzu Barracks prioritizes the safety of players, match officials and supporters, reinforcing its commitment to maintaining order on and off the pitch.
The club has since issued an apology to the affected steward, LUANAR Mitundu FC, match officials, and the Dedza community for the unfortunate incident.
The violence followed a dramatic end to the match played on May 2, 2026, where Kamuzu Barracks lost 1-0 to LUANAR Mitundu FC.
Tensions escalated after referee Lackson Chunda awarded a late penalty that sealed the result.
In frustration, some supporters turned their anger toward match officials and security personnel, leading to the assault that has now drawn disciplinary action.
While the club’s response has been welcomed as a step toward restoring order, the decision not to publicly name those involved may raise questions among some supporters seeking greater transparency.
Nonetheless, Kamuzu Barracks’ actions send a clear message that indiscipline and violence have no place in football.
