Man Arrested in Balaka for Possessing Liquid Fuel Without a Permit

Police in Balaka have arrested a 50-year-old man, Waile Ngoma, for being found in possession of liquid fuel without a permit.

According to Balaka Police Spokesperson, Gladson M’bumpha, the suspect who is also a businessman at Ntaja Trading Centre in Machinga District, got arrested on Wednesday night of May 6, 2026 at around 23:00 hours within Balaka Township.



M’bumpha says on this particular night, Police detectives from Balaka Police Station received an information that at a certain rest house within Balaka, there is a person who is using motorcycle transporters (Kabaza) to buy him fuel (Petrol) by using motorcycles and later drain the product from the motorcycles into plastic jericans.

Upon receipt of the information, Police detectives rushed to the scene where they found 120 litres of Petrol of which 40 litres was in separate plastic jericans of 20 litre capacity.
