Minister of Information and Communications Technology Dr. Shadric Namalomba has laid out an ambitious three-year vision to transform Malawi into a connected, secure, and inclusive digital nation where every citizen, institution, and enterprise can thrive in the digital economy.
Dr. Namalomba made the remarks on Thursday when he officially opened the 2026 International ICT Expo at the Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe. The three-day expo has brought together tech companies, innovators, policymakers, and students to showcase emerging digital solutions.
“Digital transformation is no longer optional, it is a strategic necessity for national development,” Dr. Namalomba told delegates. He said the Ministry’s vision over the next three years is to build infrastructure and policies that ensure no Malawian is left behind as the country adopts new technologies.

The Minister outlined key focus areas: expanding broadband access to rural areas, strengthening cybersecurity frameworks to protect citizens and data, and promoting digital skills training for youth and women. He stressed that a truly inclusive digital economy requires affordable internet, trusted systems, and skills that match market demand.
“We want every citizen to participate meaningfully, every institution to deliver services digitally, and every enterprise to compete beyond our borders,” Dr. Namalomba said. He added that government will work closely with the private sector and development partners to accelerate projects under Malawi 2063.
ICT Association of Malawi president Clarence Gama commended government for its commitment to promoting ICT innovations and creating space for local startups. “This expo shows that Malawi is ready to lead in digital solutions for Africa. We applaud the Minister for setting a clear direction and engaging industry players,” Gama said.
The 2026 International ICT Expo features exhibitions on fintech, e-government services, agritech, and artificial intelligence. Organizers say the platform will help link innovators with investors and government buyers.
With Dr. Namalomba at the helm, the Ministry of ICT appears set to drive Malawi’s digital agenda with urgency. His call for a secure and inclusive digital future signals strong political will at a time when technology is reshaping jobs, education, and service delivery across the globe.
