President Arthur Peter Mutharika has reaffirmed Malawi’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with the African Union (AU), saying closer regional cooperation remains essential for promoting inclusive economic growth and sustainable development across the continent.
He made the remarks on Monday at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe during a ceremony where he received letters of credence from Ambassador Hilda Suka-Mafudze of the African Union Southern Africa Regional Office (AU-SARO).

Mutharika described the envoy’s accreditation as an important step in deepening relations between Malawi and the continental body.
The president said Malawi continues to align its national development priorities with the African Union’s broader agenda through the Malawi Vision 2063 framework, which aims to transform the country into an industrialised, upper-middle-income economy.
He further highlighted key areas of cooperation between Malawi and the AU, including agriculture and food security, climate change mitigation, trade, education, as well as peace and security.
On her part,Suka-Mafudze urged Malawi and all other African countries to join forces in safeguarding mineral resources on the continent.
She observed that Africa has enough minerals which if well managed can help in developing the continent.
Suka-Mafudze said time for politics is gone and African countries have to step up efforts to develop the continent economically.
