A 29-year-old well-known salesman at Chilipa Trading Centre identified as Frank John has committed suicide after reportedly failing to repay loans taken from different individuals.

According to Mangochi police spokesperson Inspector Amina Tepani Daudi, said the incident occurred on the evening of May 12, 2026, at Msonkho Village in Traditional Authority Chilipa, Mangochi District.

According to police findings, John was working as a salesman at one of the major shops at Chilipa Trading Centre.

On the day of the incident, the deceased’s father returned home from the garden and was informed by his wife that their son(now deceased) was unwell.

Concerned about his condition, the father went to check on him in his house. After knocking several times without receiving any response, he opened the door and found him hanging lifeless from the roof by a rope.

The incident was reported to Chilipa Police Unit, and officers together with medical personnel from Chilipa Health Centre visited the scene.

A postmortem examination established that death was caused by suffocation.

Police found a suicide note in the deceased’s room indicating that he had accumulated debts borrowed from various individuals as well as the shop where he was working.

Police are therefore appealing to the public to refrain from taking their own lives whenever they face challenges in life. They should rather seek counselling or share issues with colleagues.

The deceased hailed from Msonkho Village, Traditional Authority Chilipa in Mangochi District.
