Second Vice President, Enoch Kanzingeni Chihana, has been delegated to chair the Extraordinary Southern African Development Community (SADC) Organ Troika Summit of Heads of State and Government scheduled for June 22, 2026.

According to a statement released by the SADC Secretariat, Chihana will chair the virtual summit on behalf of President Arthur Peter Mutharika, who currently serves as Chairperson of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation.

The summit, which is being hosted jointly by SADC and the Government of Malawi, will bring together regional leaders to deliberate on key peace and security issues affecting the Southern African region.

The Organ Troika comprises Malawi as Chair, Eswatini as Incoming Chair, and Tanzania as Outgoing Chair.

The leaders are expected to discuss critical regional security concerns while advancing SADC’s goals of deeper regional integration and sustainable development.

SADC says the Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation is mandated to promote and safeguard peace, stability and security across the region.

It says its responsibilities include conflict prevention, management and resolution, upholding democratic principles, protecting human rights, and preserving the sovereignty and territorial integrity of member states.

The summit will be preceded by virtual meetings of senior officials and the Ministerial Committee of the Organ (MCO), which are expected to provide a platform for detailed discussions ahead of the leaders’ meeting.

The SADC Secretariat says the gathering underscores the regional bloc’s continued commitment to maintaining peace, security and cooperation among its 16 member states.
