Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission Chief Dies After Alleged Attack by Wife

The head of the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission (ZHRC), Dr Martin Muduva, has died after allegedly being attacked by his wife during a domestic dispute.

The incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday night, September 8, 2026, following a heated argument between the couple.

According to reports, Muduva sustained serious injuries after allegedly being attacked with a sharp object.

He was rushed to Parirenyatwa Hospital, where he was admitted for treatment. However, he later died while receiving medical attention.

Reports further indicate that Muduva’s wife allegedly drank poison following the incident and died.

Sources familiar with the matter claim that Muduva was attacked twice before his wife reportedly took poison.

Police have since launched investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine exactly what transpired between the couple.

Authorities have not yet released detailed information on the motive behind the alleged attack.

The incident has raised concern in Zimbabwe, particularly because Muduva was serving in a senior position at the country’s national human rights institution.

Police investigations are expected to provide more details on the sequence of events that led to the deaths.
