MCP Secretary General Richard Chimwendo Banda has been taken back to Maula Prison following his discharge from hospital on Monday afternoon, continuing a period marked by legal uncertainty and health concerns.
His lawyer, George Jivason Kadzipatike, confirmed that Chimwendo Banda was released from medical care after doctors assessed his condition and deemed him fit for discharge.
Kadzipatike, however, clarified that his client has not fully recovered, adding that doctors have recommended he returns for further medical treatment within the next day.
The MCP Secretary General has spent the past two weeks receiving treatment after falling ill while in police custody, a development that attracted public and political attention.

Medical personnel reportedly monitored his condition closely before allowing his discharge, stressing the need for continued follow-up care.
Immediately after leaving the hospital, Chimwendo Banda was transferred back to Maula Prison, where he remains in custody.
He is still awaiting a ruling on his bail application, which was heard earlier before High Court Judge Mzonde Mvula.
The judge indicated that the court would communicate its decision on the bail request at an unspecified date.
This uncertainty has left Chimwendo Banda’s legal team and party officials anxiously awaiting the next step in the case.
As events unfold, focus remains on the court’s pending decision and the health of the MCP Secretary General while he remains behind bars.
