Malawi President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has rebuffed rumours and reports circulating on various social media platforms that he is delegating a cabinet minister to chair cabinet meetings.
Mutharika disclosed that he will not be distracted by fake reports about his presidency, which he said are aimed at disrupting the discharge of his duties.
The Malawi leader reacted to recent reports that he had delegated a cabinet minister to chair a cabinet meeting he had convened on 27 May 2026.

In a statement released today and signed by Chief Secretary to the Government and Cabinet Dr. Justin Saidi, Mutharika emphasised that he remains focused on restoring Malawi’s economic stability and strengthening public service delivery.
He further challenged that no amount of false reports circulating everywhere will stop him, noting that he is not a ceremonial president.
On the issue of delegating powers, the statement confirmed that the president delegates representation to the most relevant and appropriate official, bearing in mind the nature and objectives of each specific action.
“Such decisions are not motivated by malice, indifference, or ill will, but are deliberate measures aimed at promoting good governance and reducing unnecessary public expenditure,” the statement read.
