Blandina Khondowe laid to rest as President Chakwera and Vice Chilima join mourners

The Former Miss Malawi and known Cancer activist Blandina Mlenga Khondowe was finally laid to rest at Area 18 cemetery in Lilongwe on Monday afternoon. In a ceremony that was attended by Vice Dr Saulos Chilima, cabinet ministers and many dignatories thousands paid tribute to the 40 year old who succumbed to her battle against Breast Cancer. Earlier on President Chakwera went to the deceased mourning house to pay his last respects

The 2002 Miss Malawi beauty, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013, will be remembered for her selfless role in enhancing breast cancer visibility to give women life-saving help for the disease.

Through her Think Pink Malawi Movement, she mobilised people from different backgrounds in raising Cancer awareness and brought together like-minded individuals to champion the cause.

Chilima who took part in burial ceremony said he was devastated  at the loss of Khondowe who he  described as “a consummate patriot, a fearless and courageous fighter”.

Some of the notable faces at the funeral were Civic Education Minister Timothy Mtambo, Information and Tourism minister Gospel Kazako and Tourism Minister Michael Usi.

Blandina’s contribution towards cancer awareness has largely been recognized . with Tribute pouring from all circles Blandina has left a husband and two young kids.
