Chawinga Sisters Earn Places in CAF WAFCON Best XI

By Burnett Munthali

Malawi’s Chawinga sisters have been recognised among the standout performers of the CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, with both Tabitha and Temwa Chawinga named in the tournament’s Best XI.

Tabitha, one of Malawi’s most influential attacking players throughout the competition, secured a place in a three-player forward line alongside Cameroon’s Marie Ngah and Zambia’s Barbra Banda.

Temwa was selected in midfield, where she is joined by Cameroon’s Monique Ngock and Algeria’s Marine Dafeur. Her inclusion further underlines the impact she made during Malawi’s historic campaign.

The recognition represents another major milestone for the Chawinga sisters, who played central roles as the Scorchers produced one of the strongest WAFCON campaigns in Malawi’s history.

Their selection in the continental team of the tournament also highlights the growing international profile of Malawian women’s football and the increasing influence of Malawi’s leading players on the African stage.

The Best XI recognition caps an impressive tournament for the sisters and places both among the continent’s elite performers following a memorable WAFCON campaign.
