Malawi Netball Queens goal shooter Mwawi Kumwenda has signed a new one-year contract with Australian side Peninsula Waves.

The new agreement follows the netball star’s impressive performances for Malawi at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, where the Queens finished seventh.

Kumwenda’s new deal gives her another opportunity to continue her career in Australian netball and contribute her experience to Peninsula Waves.

The one-year contract also includes an option for an extension, depending on the player’s performances during the new season.

Kumwenda has established herself as one of Malawi’s most experienced and prolific goal scorers, having played a key role for the Queens over the years.

Her performances at international level have also made her one of the most recognised Malawian netball players outside the country.

The Commonwealth Games campaign in Glasgow provided another platform for Kumwenda to demonstrate her goal-scoring ability against some of the best teams in the world.

Although Malawi finished seventh in the competition, Kumwenda’s individual performances contributed to the team’s campaign.
Peninsula Waves are among the teams competing in Australia’s Victoria Netball League, a competition that provides a strong platform for elite netball players.

The club is also associated with the Victorian Fury, further giving Kumwenda an opportunity to compete at a high level and gain valuable experience.

Her continued stay in Australia is expected to benefit both the player and the Malawi national team, as she will remain exposed to competitive netball and high-level training.

Kumwenda will now look to repay Peninsula Waves’ confidence by producing strong performances during the new contract and potentially earning an extension.
