Five people, including four children, have been injured following a road accident involving a motorcycle at Kachere Estate along the Bakili Muluzi Highway in Mangochi District.
Mangochi Police have identified the victims as 48-year-old motorcycle rider Andiseni Alabi and four minors, Tasmimu Frank, aged 8, Lukia Ibra, 12 years old, Shakira Jonas,aged 9 and Saujatu Ronald, 14 years old.
According to Mangochi police spokesperson Amina Tepani Daud, said the accident occurred on May 21, 2026, when Alabi was riding an unregistered Suzuki motorcycle from Chiponde towards Nselema.

Upon reaching Kachere Estate, the rider allegedly lost control of the motorcycle due to excessive speed before swerving off the road and crashing into the four children who were walking along the same route.
As a result of the collision, Tasmimu suffered a fractured right arm and shoulder, in addition to multiple bruises, while Lukia sustained a fractured right leg and several bruises.
The two children were referred to Mangochi District Hospital for specialized treatment.
Meanwhile, Shakira suffered a deep cut on her right leg and bruises on both knees, while Saujatu sustained bruises on both hands.
The motorcycle rider also escaped with multiple body injuries and is receiving medical treatment.
Police say Shakira, Saujatu and the rider are currently being treated at Mulibwanji Mission Hospital.
Following the incident, police have urged all road users to observe traffic regulations and road safety measures to help reduce road accidents. All the injured children come from Mkwalula Village, while the rider hails from Nakapa Village, both under Traditional Authority Bwananyambi in Mangochi District.
