MAGLA partners SULOM in K40 million premiership awards initiative

By Chisomo Phiri

The Malawi Gaming and Lotteries Authority (MAGLA) on Monday entered into a K40 million one-year partnership with the Super League of Malawi (SULOM) to sponsor the Goal and Save of the Month awards.

Under the initiative, the best goalkeeper of the month and the player who scores the best goal will each receive K1 million, aimed at rewarding outstanding performances in the FDH Bank Premiership.

Speaking during the signing ceremony in Blantyre, MAGLA Director General Muchanankhwaye Mpuluka said the partnership is intended to motivate players to deliver strong performances while also promoting responsible gambling awareness among the public.

“As MAGLA, we would like to motivate football players to give their all during matches and sensitise the public on the importance of being responsible when gambling,” he said.

On his part, SULOM Vice-President Ronald Chiwaula said the agreement goes beyond sponsorship, describing it as a strong vote of confidence in Malawian football and a commitment to developing and celebrating excellence in the game.

“We are proud that MAGLA has chosen to partner with us in recognising and rewarding outstanding performances from our players throughout the 2026 football season,” he said.

MAGLA is the national regulatory body responsible for overseeing all gaming, betting, and lottery activities in Malawi.

Established under the Gaming and Lotteries Act, 2022, the authority exists to ensure a safe, fair, and transparent gaming industry that protects consumers, promotes responsible play, and supports national development.

MAGLA licenses and regulates operators, monitors compliance, combats illegal gaming, and ensures that all games are conducted with integrity.

On the other hand,SULOM is the top-tier professional football division in the country, established in 1986.

It features 16 clubs operating in a double round-robin format, with the champion qualifying for the Confederation of African Footbal (CAF) Champions Leage.
