Popular Malawian competitive eater, Spanner Malawi, is set to travel to Nigeria later this month for another major international challenge that could place his name in the global record books.
The food-eating sensation, widely known for consuming large amounts of food within a short period of time, confirmed the development during an interview on Wednesday evening, describing the opportunity as one of the biggest moments of his career.
According to Spanner Malawi, the trip will not only involve participating in a high-profile eating competition but also taking part in film production activities while in Nigeria.

The entertainer revealed that organizers of the competition informed him that the winner could earn a place in the prestigious Guinness World Records, a development he says would be historic for both himself and Malawi.
“This competition is all about making history. Whoever wins will have a chance to enter the Guinness World Records, so this is a very big opportunity for me,” said Spanner Malawi.
He further explained that he had already arrived in Lilongwe to begin processing travel documents including his visa, ahead of the anticipated journey.
Despite the excitement surrounding the opportunity, Spanner Malawi admitted that financial challenges still threaten to affect the success of the trip.
The competitive eater has since appealed to companies, organizations and well-wishers across Malawi to support him financially, saying the journey represents more than just personal success.
“This is also a chance to raise the Malawi flag internationally. I believe companies and patriotic Malawians can help me achieve this dream,” he added.
Support has already started coming in from some individuals, with well-known businessman and roofing contractor Nkhuwamanya Kaira donating MK1 million towards the trip.
However, Spanner Malawi says the contribution alone is not enough, stressing that additional assistance is still needed to cover travel and competition expenses.
If successful in Nigeria, Spanner Malawi could become one of the few Malawians to gain international recognition through competitive eating, potentially placing the country on the world map in a unique and unconventional sporting field.
