Nam Elects New Leaders

Member of Parliament for Zomba Likangala Constituency Abgail Shariff has been elected as the new President of the Netball Association of Malawi(Nam) after defeating Queens legend Emmie Waya Chongwe during the Association’s Elective Annual General Meeting held in Salima on Saturday.

The former Nam treasurer got 37 votes while Chongwe got 11 votes.

Chimwemwe Bakali was voted as Vice President defeating Anastasia Kaphale.

Isaac Chimwala defeated former Queens shooter Linda Magombo Munthali on the post of General Secretary after amassing 42 votes against Munthali’s 6.

Agness Chaima, and Chancy Munthali were voted as Treasurer and Vice Treasurer respectively.

Speaking after the election, the newly elected Nam president Abgail Sheriff says she will strive to uprift the standards of Netball in the country by partnering with the private sector.

She said; “First of all I would like to thank the delegates for showing trust in me. I am ready to repay their faith by working hard to uplift the standards of netball in the country.

“One of the things that I will do is to put strong grassroots structures and partnering with the private sector to further develop the sport.”

Meanwhile the outgoing Nam president Khungekile Matiya has congratulated the new executive and promised to help them achieve their goals.

“Hearty congratulations to the new executive. Lets all work together with the new executive to develop netball. In any race, there is always be one winner. Lets support those who have been entrusted with the responsibility of running the Association for the next 4 years. The new executive have my full support and I wish them all the best,” she said.
